Chun Lang JLC
鰆浪 金陵中环店
Taizhou, surrounded by mountains on three sides and bordered by the sea to the east, sits 'between mountains and sea.' The hardships of high mountains and steep valleys, together with the perils of vast seas and surging waves, have nurtured the industrious, pragmatic temperament and the bold, fearless spirit of the people of Taizhou.
The restaurant is located in JLC Plaza, Jinling Central, Nanjing, with an area of 835 square meters. By creating multiple narrative scenes and atmospheric settings, we enable guests to immerse themselves in Taizhou culture within the space while savoring the flavors of Taizhou cuisine.
This project is based on the local culture of Taizhou, distilling and abstracting the 'rustic and fierce' fisherman culture, aiming to create a unique expression for the 'Chun Lang' brand. The design revolves around the theme of 'Between mountains and sea, guided by fishing lights, finding flavor and returning home,' integrating Taizhou's characteristics as a coastal city into the space. We use wave-like lines throughout the overall design, outlining the unique atmosphere of a small seaside town.
At the entrance, the original building's glass atrium is used to cleverly create a 'four waters returning to the hall' layout through a suspended structure, symbolizing favorable winds and smooth sailing in the scene of a traditional Taizhou dwelling. Upon entering, one is greeted by a dish-ordering area surrounded by fresh seafood. The core of Taizhou flavor is 'freshness.' Here, ingredients are displayed directly, ordered and prepared on the spot, like entering a traditional Taizhou market scene—lively and bustling.
Seated in the main dining hall, one is surrounded by silver-thread wallcoverings of schools of Spanish mackerel, and looking up, one can see 'fishing lights' scattered like stars in the sky. Passing through the main hall, one arrives at the terrace, where fish bones, canvas, fish baskets, and jellyfish lamps, accompanied by the sea breeze, lead guests into a scene of Taizhou's tidal flats and beaches. Entering a private room through a small passage represents a reunion-style ending, where the quality environment and service together bring guests a 'family banquet' dining experience. The soul of Taizhou lies in its mountains and sea, fishing, and the warmth of everyday life. Through modern design language and restrained expression, we create a space that can both evoke nostalgia in Taizhou natives and allow out-of-town diners to feel the unique cultural charm and a premium dining experience.
Wrought Iron Lotus Lamps
At the top of the space, we have installed multiple custom wrought iron lotus lamps. Their lines are smooth and dynamic, blending the imagery of ocean waves and lotus leaves, injecting a classical yet modern visual focal point into the space.
Silver Thread Wave Wallcovering
Large areas of wall surfaces use silver thread wallcovering with wave patterns, presenting a wave-like texture through delicate knitting techniques. It shimmers under light, like ripples on water, enhancing the texture and layering of the space.
Openwork Screen Partitions
To optimize privacy and the experience in the dining area, we have designed a series of new Chinese-style openwork screen partitions. While effectively dividing the space, they maintain visual transparency, creating a quiet and elegant dining environment.
The overall spatial design is based on an ancient style, cleverly incorporating Taizhou's distinctive elements. Elegant lotus lamps, fish playing on the walls, and wave patterns in the details complement natural materials such as light teak and walnut, together creating an atmosphere of abundance in a small seaside town.
To maintain overall quality, all furniture in the restaurant is custom-designed. From the elegant-lined lotus lamps, the chilled seafood counter with spliced oil-wax leather, to the dining tables with light-colored sintered stone tops and wooden legs, every detail is dedicated to creating a dining space that retains ancient charm while preserving the relaxed comfort of a coastal city.
