Ti-TEAMINVADER

This project is located in Beijing Jingyuan Art Center. Jingyuan was formerly the Baiziwan warehouse of the Beijing Supply and Marketing Cooperative Cotton and Hemp Company, built in 1958. Its old factory-style loft architectural structure gives every corner a retro atmosphere. In this project, XIAOOU OFFICE deeply integrated the architectural character of the building's era with the business format of its TI dance studio, creating a unique space that feels like a "street dance archive."

A standalone volume of 1,180 square meters is truly rare among many dance studios. Based on this, the design team drew inspiration from theaters and derived scenes with different functions. The lounge area, changing rooms, and public areas correspond respectively to a theater's audience rest area, dressing rooms, and backstage, creating an immersive theatrical experience for people entering here and making them feel as if they have instantly traveled back to an era when retro theaters flourished.

The Integration of Retro and Functionality

The design of the entrance is the first impression the entire space gives people and is also a key part of creating a retro atmosphere. We designed the entrance as a retro theater-style store sign, so that from the moment customers step in, they can quickly develop a sense of immersion. This design does not exist in isolation, but forms a close coordination with the overall retro style of the interior, allowing customers to feel the retro charm conveyed by the space from the very beginning and setting the tone for the experience that follows.

The front desk, as the service hub of the office, must not only have practical functions but also continue the overall design style. Based on this, we created a cashier counter with a strong theatrical style. The body of the counter is decorated with white panels paired with natural-color stainless steel. This combination of materials both reflects a retro feel and incorporates the Bauhaus idea of respecting and displaying the materials themselves. The entire front desk area resembles a theater ticket counter while retaining the convenient functions of a modern studio, achieving a perfect fusion of retro and functionality.

In today's era where social media prevails, dance practice rooms are no longer limited to offline practicality; they are also important places for dancers to express themselves and record their results. We communicated fully with the client and, after gaining an in-depth understanding of their demands, redesigned the dance rehearsal rooms. The overall style of the rehearsal rooms is mainly simple and retro, while the ceiling and light tubes became the focus of the design, with the purpose of highlighting the dancers themselves even more.

For different dance rooms, we adopted different ceiling structures and color schemes, and the color of the lighting can also be adjusted according to the theme of the dance room. Through this design, different dance practice rooms present different styles, achieving a perfect combination of dance and space and fully displaying the unique style and creativity of dancers.

The lounge area is where dancers relax physically and mentally, and its soft furnishing design also continues the overall retro theater style. We specially selected theater-style tubular steel chairs. The stainless steel furniture legs outline crisp geometric lines, and the clean, simple shape forms a clever echo with the overall design. This design not only continues the Bauhaus pursuit of functionality and the authenticity of materials, but also creates a material collision through the metallic texture and the wood grain and panels in the space, making the lounge area appear even more design-driven within its retro atmosphere.

The Texture Collision of Retro Aesthetics

In terms of color, we mainly chose a simple and clean visual effect centered on retro. The main color palette adopts low-saturation retro-futuristic colors, using red, green, blue, and yellow. Low-saturation green serves as one of the base colors of the space, giving a calm and comfortable feeling; red and blue are used as accent colors for wall decoration, furniture, and other parts, adding visual layering and vitality.

In terms of materials, we selected dark wood grain with clear and natural texture, creating a strong retro feel. The use of white panels reflects the pursuit of simplicity and is used for walls, cabinets, and other parts, making the space appear clean and neat. At the same time, natural-color stainless steel is used as an accent. The metallic texture of stainless steel forms a sharp contrast with the wood grain and white panels, both highlighting a futuristic retro feel and showcasing the characteristics of different materials.

Design elements such as variable lighting in different classrooms, walls with alternating materials, and striking logos fill the practice rooms with visual tension. The variable lighting can be adjusted according to different dance styles and recording needs; the walls with alternating materials create rich visual effects; the striking logo is presented with concise lines and vivid colors, both conforming to the overall retro feel and strengthening the brand identity. These designs not only provide dancers with a comfortable practice environment, but also offer an ideal background for live performances and dance video recording.

As dancers practice, create, and record videos here, they will imperceptibly be willing to upload their works to social media. Through this unique space and distinctive experience, TI Dance Studio is endowed with a brand-new brand image and broad dissemination potential.

The design of TI Street Dance Studio is a wonderful collision between retro style and modern street dance trends. Starting from the historical heritage of the building itself, we cleverly integrated retro elements.

Through the careful creation of various areas such as the entrance, front desk, dance rooms, and lounge area, and the meticulous control of color, materials, lighting, and details, we created a dance space that is both full of retro charm and equipped with modern functions. This is not only a place where dancers sweat and pursue their dreams, but also a unique venue where one can feel the integration of history and modernity and the collision of art and life. We believe that in such a space, TI Street Dance Studio can attract more people who love dance and become an important base for the dissemination and development of street dance culture.
